Gold Medal Games

Catch the spirit of friendly competition during this fun, fast-paced, team building event. Based on the ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship, and good clean fun, Gold Medal Games is filled with hilarious exercises designed to build camaraderie among coworkers.

This team building session begins with each group building a team identity by creating team names, flags, and slogans. Then, let the wackiness ensue!

Get ready for events like:

  • Going Nuts – Teammates take turns stacking metal nuts vertically on top of each other using only a chopstick. Don’t be the one to knock it over or you have to start again!
  • Bubblemeister – It takes a whole team to escort soap bubbles from the starting line to the end goal using frisbees as fans. How many will your team get? Be careful- they’re delicate!

The list goes on and on, but we don’t want to give away all the surprises. Points are awarded after each event so the energy – and the competition – keeps the group engaged.

We know that not everyone in your office is an athlete, so we’ve selected activities in which being a team player, having an open mind, and being willing to let go of your inhibitions for just for a little while, is all that it takes.

When it’s time for the dramatic ending… winners are awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.

This fun and competitive team building event builds friendships, boosts morale, and creates a high level of energy that will last long after the event ends. Gold Metal Games can take place outside in a park, a beach or in a large conference room.

Can your teams handle it?

Program Stats:

Group size: 15-200
Program Length: 2.5-3 hours
Suggested Team Size: 5 is optimal, 3-6 is fine
Space requirements: 20 square ft per team
Program Location: Inside or outside

What is the best team size?
We typically recommend teams of 5. However, teams of 3-6 can also work well. 7 or more people per team will not be as engaging for all of the participants.
Is it better to predetermine the members of the teams or randomly assign people to teams?
The answer to this question depends upon your goal for the session. Sometimes, participants are comprised of several teams from one department. In these cases, our clients tend to like to preset the teams so that people can interact with people they don’t work with on a regular basis. Other times, groups are comprised of a single team or department and randomly assigning teams works fine.
Who forms the teams?
We can randomize small groups on the spot, but for groups larger than 20 people, we recommend you form the teams ahead of time. If you are preselecting the teams, we suggest you disseminate this information to the participants either at the program or prior to the event. We do not recommend reading off of a list at the beginning of the program.
What is the typical length of the program, and is this flexible?
A typical program runs 2.5-3 hours. Half hour flexibility is easy in either direction. The program can be shortened to a minimum run time of 1.5 hours.
How much set-up time is needed?
2 hours
What about prizes?
We bring Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
What are the space requirements?
The more, the better. This event needs both tables and open space. If this is being done inside, we recommend 1 60” round table and chairs for each group of 5, then have 3 times that space in open space in addition. (So you need the total space of 4 times the number of round tables/teams you have.) And we’ll need 4 8’ long rectangular tables at the front of the room. The same space is required outside, but there the challenge is probably the tables and not the open space. Microphones and sound are needed for groups larger than 40. It is possible to do this outside without tables; it’s just challenging.
What if we’re outside and the weather is bad?
We offer several different rain plans, for an additional charge. We can bring ponchos, we can bring an indoor activity, or we can reschedule.
How physical is this? We have people who are not in the best shape.
This is designed for people who work in offices all day. There is nothing that requires athletic ability.
What is the best attire for this event?
Dress for the weather, being active, and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Can this be done over drinks and appetizers?
We strongly discourage this.
What’s the difference between scoring and debriefing?
Some groups just want to add up points and declare winners. Some groups also like to have a light debrief to talk about the experience and discuss strategy, obstacles, and tell stories. We can do either or both.
How is the scoring done?
The facilitator announces the winners of each event. There are points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and completion. This encourages everyone to finish the activity and not just give up once the first team is done.
